Strip packaging seals a medicine between two flexible layers, making clear and repeatable printing essential before the webs enter the sealing process.
How Strip Packaging Works
Unlike a conventional blister, a strip pack does not use a pre-formed plastic pocket. Two foil or laminate webs wrap closely around individual tablets, capsules or lozenges and are heat-sealed together. The format provides individual unit protection and is widely used where compact medicine packaging and clear identification are required.
Printing Before Sealing
A pharmaceutical strip foil printing machine prints the web before it reaches the strip packing line. The process starts with controlled unwinding, followed by ink transfer at one or more printing stations. Registration settings maintain the correct artwork repeat, and effective drying prevents offset when the finished material is rewound. The roll can then be transferred to the sealing machine for final pack formation.
Materials Used for Strip Packs
Common substrates include aluminium foil, coated foil and laminates combining aluminium with polymer films. Final suitability depends on gauge, surface treatment, coating, ink chemistry, sealing construction and operating temperature. Machine rollers, tension range and drying should therefore be selected after reviewing the actual production material rather than relying only on a generic material name.
